Ballroom dances have grown popular in the course of the years in both aspects of recreation and competition. They are categorized into two the international standard and the American ballroom dance. Examples of ballroom dances are the waltz, Viennese waltz ,foxtrot and tango and many others. The waltz has been identified as a smooth dance. This dance involves movement along a line of dance. Taking a step, a slide and a three quarter step with rise and fall movements form the basics of the dance. The dancers’ shoulders should be moved subtly in a parallel pattern with the floor. The aim of the dancers is to expand each stride taken. In the initial beat of music a step is taken on the heel ,then onto the ball of the foot and extend to the toes in the second and third order of music. At the conclusion of the third step the feet should be returned to their initial position.
The Viennese waltz is comprised of rotational movements and has a reputation of being classical. The dance partners do a revolving movement around each other while rotating on the floor. The acceleration applied in this dance beats the one in the classical waltz. There is a classification of it that may be performed in social functions as it can be easily carried out. It portrays elegance and simplicity during its performance that involves graceful movements and sweeping turns.
The foxtrot dance features side steps and walking steps. The characteristic long motions , rise and fall actions basic in the waltz are applied in a smoother fashion. The dance line shares some resemblance with that of a waltz but the diversity is portrayed clearly in the timing. It may involve fast or slow steps which use a beat or two of music respectively.
The tango has appealed to a larger audience. This may be attributed to the fact that it can be used to pass romantic messages in the way it is performed. The presence of both parties of the opposite sex is necessitated. There are several types of the tango dance. A tight or a more relaxed embrace may be observed in diverse forms of tango. The closed embrace features close touch of the chest or hip area while the open embrace sees the partners enjoy the dance while maintaining their personal space. It is a form of relaying the intended message without necessarily employing the use of words.
