Adam Kamani is now the CEO of the Kamani Property Group. He talks about how his granddad came from Kenya and set up a business dynasty in the UK. Kamani now has shown an inclination towards establishing a real estate empire.
Mr Kamani is easy to associate with luxury. His office is seriously cool. Meeting Mr Kamani in his office is quite an experience.
Mr Kamani is just 28. He has an air hockey table in his office, along with some funky wall art as well. It can be accessed through a regular entrance at Tariff Street.
It was around three years back that Mr Kamani set up a business, known as PrettyLittleThing along with his brother, Umar. Following that, he turned his focus towards real estate.
Adam’s road to success in business can nevertheless be traced to, much before this. Adam Kamani’s success comes by as a surprise to many.
One of the factors that can be attributed to the same is Kamani’s growing up in an entrepreneurial family. It is Kamani’s family behind Boohoo.com, an online fashion joint.
Mr Kamani expresses that the basis of the business is his family being a strong unit. The family empowers each member and they all work together. He credits his grandparents for instilling the qualities in the entire family.
During his younger days, Mr Kamani was raised in a house in Chorlton. He used to live there along with his grandparents, parents, cousins, and brothers.
He expresses that there used to be 18 members living in the family in total. It used to be quite an experience. Kamani adds that he has fond memories of the place. He says that if he falls out of favour with his friends, his family would still be there for him. He has nurtured this psychology right since his childhood, he further expresses.
Following their immigration from Kenya, Adam’s family had been working hard at business ventures. Success eventually came their way.
Adam’s granddad started with humble beginnings. Upon the family’s arrival in Manchester, he set up a market stall and used to sell towels and handkerchiefs over there.
Boohoo.com stays to be one of the most important entrepreneurial ventures by the Kamani family. Boohoo was set up in 2006. The Kamani family got refined ideas regarding setting up the e-commerce venture through the clothing import-export business which they used to run.
Before setting up Boohoo.com, the Kamani family used to own a warehouse. This would supply goods to most high street brands.
Adam expresses that his dad one day came to realize that e-commerce is a happening story. If others could do it, so could they. Adam says that his dad never uses the word losing. Adam’s upbringing, he says, used to be tough. He used to sleep in a van at night, working hard and travelling to different cities through the night.
While Adam used to work very hard, right since his childhood, it is what has made him the businessman that he is today. He credits his family for making him what he is today.
