Finding the Humor in Search Engine Marketing
Spend some time searching for keywords that interest you on Google or another search engine and see which ads and links catch your eye. Click on the links that immediately get your attention and see what ads placed on those websites really get your attention. You will probably find that those with a bit of edge, humor, or wit tend to grab your attention more than those that just present a keyword or some generic slogan.
It is so easy to put up marketing campaigns that are technically correct but very dry. Some can be downright boring, but marketers don’t notice or don’t seem to care as long as some results are seen from the campaign. The problem is even more results could be seen if the time was taken to put something more original and entertaining into those ads and PPC campaigns.
People are naturally drawn to humor. There is so much stress in daily life that people really appreciate anything that can make the corners of their mouth curl upward. They really appreciate something that makes them laugh out loud. They appreciate these things so much that they pass them on to their friends, colleagues and family members because they want to spread that happiness and joy around.
If you have a list of ten different ads for the same product and just one has a bit of humor or wit involved, it will win out over the other ads the majority of the time. That is why those who come up with more creative marketing ideas often seen tons of success where those doing it technically right but in a dry manner struggle for their share of the traffic or sales.
It can be more difficult to insert humor or wit into some niches while others lend themselves easily to playful conversations, jokes, cartoons, and amusing video clips. The trick is to find something just a bit unusual or different even if your niche, keyword or subject is very dry and serious. You can even go with something controversial if you really want to ruffle some feathers and get the attention on you.
Marketing is all about standing out from the crowd and being seen. With so many people marketing online today, it has become a viciously cluttered environment with everyone stepping on one another to get to the top. In order to get to the top you need something very different from what all your competitors are putting out there.
Part of this is just finding keywords that aren’t as competitive, but what you do with those keywords is very important. Spend time thinking creatively or hire a creative thinker to give you some unique headlines and angles. You can use these headlines to grab attention through the SERPs and in your article marketing efforts.
When a searcher types your keyword into Google or Yahoo and is presented with a list of possible websites to click on, you want them to see yours as different from all the others so they are more likely to click on it. All the other links may be giving something very similar to one another, but you want yours to stand out with something different.
One simple idea used a lot today is to turn around what everyone else is using. For instance, if there are twenty pages in the SERPs listing the best foods for detox diet, you may create a page listing the worst foods for a detox diet.
